Onomax -S 1.5 GM Injection is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Cefoperazone (500mg) and Sulbactam (500mg), designed to treat a variety of bacterial infections. Cefoperazone is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that works by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls, leading to the death of susceptible bacteria. Sulbactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, enhances the activity of Cefoperazone by preventing bacterial enzymes (beta-lactamases) from inactivating the antibiotic, thus broadening its spectrum of activity.
This combination is highly effective in treating serious infections caused by both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including sepsis, pneumonia, urinary tract infections (UTIs), skin and soft tissue infections, and intra-abdominal infections. The broad-spectrum nature of Cefoperazone-Sulbactam makes it suitable for use in hospital settings, particularly in patients who require intravenous therapy for severe or resistant infections.
Common side effects include allergic reactions, nausea, diarrhea, and changes in liver function tests. Serious side effects such as anaphylaxis or blood dyscrasias are rare but possible.
Treatment of serious infections like pneumonia, urinary tract infections (UTIs), skin and soft tissue infections, intra-abdominal infections, and sepsis.
Not recommended for patients with a known allergy to penicillin or cephalosporins. Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver impairment.
